The Internet is a fun place where you can easily find new games, music, films, books, and coloring pages. It’s a virtual world where you can meet friends, learn, play, and have fun.

But alongside all the good things, the Internet also holds dangers you need to be aware of. When online, it’s important to remember that you never have complete privacy or protection.

How can we stay safe on the Internet? Here are some tips:

  • Protect your personal information—never share your name, address, phone number, or school details with strangers online.
  • Talk to your parents or legal guardians—if you see something upsetting or confusing, always talk to a trusted adult and tell them what websites you visit.
  • Be careful with strangers—don’t accept friend requests or messages from people you don’t know in real life. Many people online aren’t who they say they are.
  • Use a strong password—create passwords that are hard to guess, using a mix of letters, numbers, and symbols, and change them regularly.
  • Check your privacy settings—make your social media profiles private so only your friends can see your posts.
  • Don’t open suspicious links—if you receive a link or an attachment from a stranger, don’t open it, as it could contain viruses or malware.
  • Be kind and respectful—don’t engage in cyberbullying, and report any online abuse or violence.
  • Be cautious when downloading apps—only download from trusted sources and check reviews before installing.
  • Limit your screen time—balance your Internet use with other activities and rest.
