We continued strengthening the capacities of 22 members of youth associations and informal groups of children and young people by organizing the webinar “Addiction Prevention Among Children and Youth”—a topic proposed by members of the Children and Youth Board. The aim was to provide education on various types of addiction (alcoholism, snus, psychoactive substances, gambling, internet), their symptoms, psychological mechanisms, and prevention strategies.
An experienced psychologist and psychotherapist explained to participants the signs and consequences of addiction on mental health and the social life of individuals. The webinar’s interactive elements—including a quiz and open discussion alongside the lecture—allowed participants to test their knowledge of addictions and raise awareness about the risks and consequences of harmful substances and behaviors. This kind of understanding is crucial in reducing the likelihood that children and youth experiment with them.Educating children and youth about types of addictions, how to recognize early warning signs, and how to apply prevention strategies helps identify risky behaviors early, which can lead to timely intervention and support.
