Change doesn’t come by itself, we create it – an inspirational story from Žepče

A story of success and the benefits of the workshop

We bring you a positive and inspirational story of Hana Čišić (17) from Žepče, who participated in a workshop as part of the initiative ‘It’s Time for a Youth Center in Žepče,’ implemented under the project ‘Connecting the Dots 2.0 – Advancing Child Participation in Decision Making for Enhanced Child Rights and Democracy in Bosnia and Herzegovina’, implemented by World Vision BH Foundation and the association Naša djeca Sarajevo, in cooperation with the Ministry of Human Rights and Refugees of BiH, with the financial support of the European Union in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Before this workshop, I was someone who had opinions but often kept them to myself. I had ideas, but I doubted whether they were good enough to voice out loud. I came to the workshop organized by the association THE NEW HOPE from Žepče without high expectations—more out of curiosity than the belief that anything would truly change.

And so much did change.

During the workshop, we worked on communication skills, leadership, teamwork, and decision-making, as well as developing critical thinking. What was particularly important to me was learning about the “four energies” – mental, emotional, physical, and social – because for the first time I understood how my thoughts, emotions, and behavior affect the way I communicate with others and make decisions. Through group exercises and teamwork, I learned how to collaborate, listen to different perspectives, and confidently argue my point of view without fear. I stopped seeing leadership as something reserved for the “loudest” and began recognizing it as the ability to take initiative, lead by example, and stay true to my values.

For the first time, I had a space where I could speak my mind and be truly heard. Not interrupted. Not judged. But respected.

The biggest change happened after the workshop. I started participating in discussions more confidently, making decisions without constant second-guessing, and taking a more active role in my school environment. Today, I know how to think critically, work in a team, and stand by my decisions.

This workshop didn’t just give me new skills.

It gave me clarity, courage, and a sense of belonging to the process of change.
I no longer wait for things to happen.
I no longer doubt my voice.
Today, I know that change doesn’t come by itself – we create it.
