National Inclusive Games of the Special Olympics Bosnia and Herzegovina 2026 – a new phase in the development of inclusive sport

In Bosnia and Herzegovina, preparations are underway for the second edition of the National Inclusive Games of the Special Olympics Bosnia and Herzegovina, which will be held from May 28 to May 30, 2026, in Sarajevo.

This year’s edition of the Games represents an important developmental step in advancing inclusive sport in Bosnia and Herzegovina, building on years of experience and results achieved through the Oaza Sports Games—an initiative that over the past fifteen years has made an outstanding contribution to the development of inclusion through sport in our country and the region, and which, starting this year, continues to evolve under the umbrella of the National Inclusive Games of the Special Olympics Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Building on these foundations, the National Inclusive Games are now further developing as an expanded and integrated national platform that combines sports activities with educational, health, and development programs, with the aim of systematically and sustainably improving inclusion in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The central part of the program consists of inclusive sports competitions organized according to the international Unified Sports® model, which enables joint participation of athletes with and without disabilities, promoting equality, team spirit, and mutual understanding.

Alongside the sports segment, the Games further strengthen their developmental dimension through:

The Youth Inclusion Leaders Summit, with a special focus on empowering women within the “Women Play – Women Lead” initiative, creating space for dialogue on leadership, equality, and the active role of young people in social processes;

The Special Olympics Health Program, aimed at improving access to healthcare services and raising awareness about the importance of preventive health care for persons with intellectual disabilities;

MATP (Motor Activity Training Program), a program that enables active participation of persons with severe and multiple disabilities through individualized motor activities, ensuring broader inclusion and accessibility of sport for all.

In this way, the National Inclusive Games go beyond the framework of a sporting event and position themselves as a platform for connecting institutions, organizations, and the community, as well as for developing sustainable models of inclusion.

We hereby invite you to follow the implementation of this year’s Games, which represent one of the key events in the field of inclusion in Bosnia and Herzegovina in 2026.
