Human rights day

Human Rights Day is observed worldwide on December 10, marking the anniversary of the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948. This document represents the foundation of the modern understanding of freedoms and rights that belong to every person, regardless of race, gender, nationality, religion, language, political belief, or any other personal circumstance.

Human Rights Day reminds us that dignity, justice, and equality are universal values that we must protect every day. It emphasizes the importance of building a society in which fundamental freedoms are respected – the right to life, education, work, freedom of expression, freedom of movement, and safety for all people.

In Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as in the rest of the world, this day is an opportunity to reflect on achievements, but also on the challenges that still remain. The role of institutions, civil society organizations, and every individual is crucial in promoting and protecting human rights, especially the rights of vulnerable groups such as children, women, persons with disabilities, minorities, and those at risk of discrimination.

The observance of Human Rights Day calls on us to be supportive, informed, and active. Only through joint action can we build a more just and inclusive society in which every person has an equal opportunity to live with dignity.
