Zone of Creativity – a space that connects ideas, activism, and youth

At the Tuzla Secondary Medical School, the project “Zone of Creativity” was implemented, born out of the need to provide students—especially those already active in school and extracurricular activities—with a space for free expression, teamwork, and the development of new ideas.

The goal of the project was to create a comfortable, functional, and inspiring environment where students can work, learn, and develop their skills, while also socializing and contributing together to positive changes within the school. As part of the project, the school cafeteria was equipped with new furniture, shelves, books, and materials, transforming it into a multifunctional space now known as the Zone of Creativity. This space now serves as a central hub for student clubs, the student council, and various educational activities.

In addition to renovating the space, the project included three sets of educational workshops through which students had the opportunity to develop their personal and leadership competencies. The workshops covered topics such as self-confidence, teamwork, communication skills, organization, and leadership – all aimed at empowering young people to take on a more active role in their community and school life.

Furthermore, two roundtable discussions were held on the topic of children and youth participation in decision-making and the importance of their voices in processes directly affecting their education and daily lives. These conversations enabled students to openly express their opinions, propose solutions, and communicate directly with school and community representatives.

As a final activity, a quiz on activism and volunteerism was organized, which, through a fun and competitive spirit, reminded participants of the importance of youth engagement in society, volunteering, and mutual solidarity.

The “Zone of Creativity” project demonstrated how ready, capable, and motivated young people are to take initiative when given the right space and support. This project not only physically enriched the school but also symbolically opened the door to new ideas, collaboration, and experiential learning.

The “Zone of Creativity” was implemented as part of the project “Connecting the Dots 2.0 – Advancing Child Participation in Decision Making for Enhanced Child Rights and Democracy in B&H,” carried out by World Vision BH Foundation and the Association Naša djeca Sarajevo, in cooperation with the Ministry for Human Rights and Refugees of BiH, and with financial support from the European Union. The project once again confirmed that investing in youth creativity and activism means investing in the future—one in which students are not passive observers, but active agents of change.
