Together Against the Social Exclusion of Children with Autism

City of Sarajevo and Pomozi.ba Join Forces for Children with Autism

On the occasion of World Autism Awareness Day, an important initiative was announced by the City of Sarajevo in cooperation with the organization Pomozi.ba. The initiative aims to provide direct support to parents of children with autism by funding their children’s attendance at kindergarten and extended care at the “Vladimir Nazor” Center – Kindergarten “More of Hope.”

Although some parents already receive subsidies, many still bear the costs of care themselves, which places an additional burden on families who face numerous daily challenges. For this reason, the City of Sarajevo and Pomozi.ba will jointly cover the costs for the first month for 39 families, with the goal of ensuring long-term assistance through raising additional funds via the humanitarian number 17041, which will be active for the next 7 (seven) days.

“Symbolically, on World Autism Awareness Day, and ahead of April 6 – the Day of the City of Sarajevo, we want to provide support to our citizens, especially the greatest heroes, the parents of children on the autism spectrum. Everyone gathered here shares a common, humanitarian mission, and in that spirit, I call on all residents of Sarajevo to call this humanitarian number,” said Mayor Predrag Puharić, expressing gratitude to Pomozi.ba for responding to this initiative which is a call for solidarity.

According to Zulfa Ahmetović, PR representative of the “Vladimir Nazor” Center, the City administration is showing great sensitivity and continuously supporting their students and parents. “Mayor Puharić continues this good tradition with the support of Pomozi.ba, which means a lot to us and gives all of us at the Center additional strength,” Ahmetović said.

Arijana Kazagić, a parent of a child with autism, thanked the City of Sarajevo, led by Mayor Puharić, and the organization Pomozi.ba for the initiative that, as she emphasizes, means a lot to parents. “We are forced to spend large amounts on treatments for our children, and this initiative will immeasurably ease that burden,” Kazagić stated.

Jasmin Ligata, Project Manager at Pomozi.ba, expressed satisfaction with having such partners and thanked the Mayor of Sarajevo, stressing that “our task is precisely to raise awareness and understanding of autism among the public.”

We will also help by not turning a blind eye to the problems of children and families and by not excluding them from society! Our shared goal must be equal rights and opportunities for everyone. Let’s be part of the change and make big things happen through small steps.
