Unregulated and inconsistent implementation of research involving and concerning children carries the risk of child abuse and violations of children’s rights. This is why the adoption and implementation of unified ethical standards is of crucial importance. With this objective in mind, we organized a training session as part of the “Connecting the Dots 2.0 – Enhancing Children’s Participation in Decision-Making to Improve Children’s Rights and Democracy in Bosnia and Herzegovina” project, funded by the European Union, to support the adoption and implementation of the Revised Code of Ethics for Research Involving and Concerning Children in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The Decision on the Adoption of the Revised Code of Ethics, a document representing a significant step forward in ensuring the highest standards for the protection of children’s rights in research processes, was published in the Official Gazette of Bosnia and Herzegovina No. 9/26, thereby formally bringing the document into force.
The author of the Revised Code of Ethics and the trainer at the event was Prof. Dr. Elmedin Muratbegović, who presented the key revisions and practical guidelines for its implementation.
The training brought together representatives of pedagogical institutes, ministries, the academic community, schools, the Association of Psychologists, UNICEF, the Council of Europe, and civil society organizations, all of whom emphasized the importance of adopting this document to establish a consistent approach to safeguarding children’s rights throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina.
“The adoption of such a document is of exceptional importance, as it provides clear guidance to all stakeholders and contributes to a consistent, high-quality, and responsible approach to protecting children’s rights in research,” the training participants stated.
