How can history and theatre become tools for building peace? The regional project “HOPE – History of Peace for Education through Theatre”, funded by the European Union through the Erasmus+ program, shows that it is possible.
Why HOPE?
We believe that education plays a key role in preventing violence, promoting social justice, and building sustainable peace. HOPE was designed to empower educators and young people to use history as a tool for peacebuilding, conflict resolution, and respect for human rights – through creative, theatre-based methods.
Who are the partners?
The project brought together six organizations from the Balkan region:
- Dah Theatre (Serbia)
- Action Sinergi SA (Greece)
- Theatro Aeroploio – Ena Theatro Giapaidia (Greece)
- Artpolis (Kosovo)
- Foundation “Prona” (Montenegro)
- World Vision BH Foundation (Bosnia and Herzegovina)
What have we achieved?
Through trainings, workshops, and creative activities, HOPE has empowered over 300 young people from Serbia, Montenegro, Greece, Kosovo, and Bosnia and Herzegovina with the knowledge, skills, and values needed to live peaceful and constructive lives. These young people have engaged as responsible citizens and drivers of positive change in their communities.
Methodological Handbook
In collaboration with historians, peace practitioners, and young activists, we developed a handbook that includes a set of workshops inspired by ancient cultures – from archaeological activities and storytelling to music and theatre techniques for peacebuilding. The handbook is available for wider use in youth work across partner countries.
In this way, HOPE is not just a project – it is becoming a movement for education that inspires peace, solidarity, and creativity.
